About Us

Our Values

Eight principles shape every decision we make, from how we design a workshop to how we spend a donation.

  1. 1

    Inclusion

We open our doors to everyone. Age, origin, language, ability, religion, gender or income should never decide who can take part in culture. We actively look for the people who are usually left out, adapt our programmes to their needs, and keep prices free or affordable so that money is never the reason someone stays at home.

  2. 2

    Creativity

We believe that every person carries a creative instinct worth nurturing. Our role is to create the conditions in which it can grow: good materials, patient guidance, freedom to experiment and a safe place to make mistakes. We value process as much as result, and curiosity as much as talent.

  3. 3

    Integrity & Transparency

We are accountable to our members, participants, donors and the public. We keep honest records, publish our reports, explain how every euro is spent and never promise what we cannot deliver. Our legal details are public, and anyone may ask us questions about our work and finances.

  4. 4

    Respect for Heritage

Rijeka's culture is layered with the stories of many peoples. We treat these traditions with care and humility, recording them faithfully, crediting those who share them and passing them on without distortion, while also welcoming the new traditions being created today.

  5. 5

    Collaboration

No organisation can sustain a city's culture alone. We work with schools, museums, libraries, artists, other associations, public institutions and international partners, sharing knowledge and resources so that our combined impact is larger than anything we could achieve separately.

  6. 6

    Sustainability

We plan for the long term. We use resources carefully, prefer reused and environmentally responsible materials, build programmes that communities can carry forward themselves, and manage our finances prudently so that our work can continue for years to come.

  7. 7

    Non-discrimination

We reject every form of discrimination, harassment and hate speech. Everyone who takes part in our activities, whether as a participant, volunteer, member, artist or partner, is treated with equal dignity and respect, and we act promptly whenever these principles are breached.

  8. 8

    Volunteerism

Much of our work is made possible by people who give their time freely. We respect volunteers as true partners, offer them meaningful roles, training and recognition, and believe that volunteering is itself a powerful expression of civic and cultural life.
